1971: Padma Shri for late Mrs. Avabai B. Wadia, then president of FPA India

1972: "Baap-re-Baap" won the first prize for the best short family planning film

1979: FPAI gets a special award from FICCI

1981: Padma Bhushan for late Mrs. Avabai B. Wadia

1983: Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Award for excellence in promoting family planning in the country

1986: Was the first to receive Mother NGO status by the Government for its pioneering work.

1992: "The Journal of Family Welfare" won the Global Media Award of the US-based Population Institute in the category of Best Population Journal.

1996: "Soch Samajh Ke" won the national award for the best family planning film

1997: Small Family By Choice Project was among the ten projects selected for the Commonwealth Award for covering issues affecting women's health throughout the life cycle.

1998: Small Family By Choice Project was chosen by IPPF for the year's prestigious "Global Vision 2000 Award" for developing innovative community strategies on population control.

1999: Small Family By Choice Project was evaluated and ranked as one of the 486 officially approved projects worldwide for EXPO-2000 - a world exposition 2000 in Hannover, Germany. Selected by the International Population Commission as one of the outstanding sustainable development projects working to reduce the birth rates in three districts of Madhya Pradesh.
